Why Obey?

The Importance of Obedience:
1. Evidence of saving faith Heb. 5:9
2. Expression of love for God John 14:21
3. Means to a closer walk v. 21-23
4. Means of personal freedom John 8:31-32
(You become a slave to the one you submit to Romans 6)
5. Way to glorify Christ

Jonathan Teaches About Attitudes: I Samuel 14:1 –
1.“he told not his father” …not getting permission of authority
2. Publicly denounced his father’s judgment…he dishonored his father

For the time being no discipline brings joy but seems grievous and painful, but afterwards it yields peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it—a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness, [that is, in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God.] Hebrews 12:11

GOD’S PURPOSE FOOLISHNESS
Loving Obedience Disobedience-
Following His Son,Jesus Christ Following one’s own way

RIGHT Attitudes: WRONG Attitudes:
Conformed to Christ’s image Manifestations of SELFishness

Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered. Hebrews 5:8
All these curses shall come upon you and, pursue you and overtake you,til you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God,to keep His com- mandments and His statutes which He commanded you. They shall be upon you as a sign and a wonder, and upon your descendants forever. Because you did not serve the Lord God with joyfulness and gladness of heart by reason of the abundance of all things. Deut.28:45-47

He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

The end of the matter; all has been heard,Fear God and keep His commandments. Ecc.12:13
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Eph. 6:1

Correction is needed in TWO areas of our lives:
WILLFUL Disobedience WRONG Attitudes
Obedience is acting COMPLETELY, PROMPTLY, [when told ONE TIME in a normal conversational tone] YOUR PARENTS’ WORDS accompanied with RIGHT ATTITUDES!
1. Obedience must be COMPLETE [example: Saul, I Samuel 15:1-23]
2. Obedience must be PROMPT [“delayed obedience is
disobedience”/JONAH]
3. Obey your parents’ word BECAUSE…Leads to obeying God’s Word.
…with RIGHT ATTITUDES!

Serve the Lord with GLADNESS. Psalm 100:2
Have you chosen RIGHT attitudes? Respectful? Content? Thankful? Grateful? Cooperative? Unselfish? Forgiving? AND _________________

Train yourself to change and CHOOSE a RIGHT Attitude.
RIGHT ATTITUDES CAN BE FOUND IN Phil. 2:1-5; 4:4-8
An attitude is a state of mind (your thinking) toward something or some- one which is expressed through your reactions. NOT characteristics; they are ingrained NOT inherited.

RIGHT Attitudes are an issue of the mind, NOT the emotions; you can CHOOSE what you think! “renewing of your mind”

Wrong thinking always leads to
Wrong actions and Wrong attitude
Importance of Bible study – to correct our thinking.
Bring thinking into alignment with the Lord’s Words!!!
A wrong thought when entertained leads to wrong thinking,
so take every thought captive!

Obedience is an issue of the WILL!
CHOICE not Chance!!!
What do your children and others know about
Obedience and Attitudes as they watch and listen to you?
