On Sunday, April 6th, we returned to "Mind Control" for review. As we entered the steps of controling thoughts, questions and discussion began. That is how the class proceeded and ended. We rejoice to know that the Lord has His plans...sometimes it is a sidestep from where we thought He was leading. As all of us yield to His divine order, we will praise Him for what He is doing in all of our lives. Back to His script next week!!! We will be challenged to finish and begin on "Is Lust Ever Right?"
The mind is Satan's target. (NOT the brain, which is a flesh computer)
Seeking a “healed” mind:
1. Complete Surrender to God
2. Submit your mind to the surgery of the Cross.
3. Choose to place your mind under God’s control.
4. Fill the mind with the Word.
NOT a correction which can be made once and for all!
It is a continuing process … DAILY lay claim!
The control of the mind is within reach of every child of God!
Some steps to follow:
1.Test Your Thoughts
2.Refuse Negative thoughts
3.Resist the Devil
“I resist you, Satan, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I refuse to receive the suggestions you would give me and command you to be gone from me.”
4. Share Every Thought immediately with the Lord.
Phil. 4:6, I Peter 5:7, Isa. 43:25, I John 2:1, Rev. 12:10
5. Healing of the memory when you can’t forget. “I have left that at the cross and I am trusting God to take care of it.”
6. Set your mind on things above.
The healing of the mind: [heritage of every child of God.]
*A changed mind that has peace with God
*A controlled mind that is bulwarked by the peace of God.
*An occupied mind that produces for God and enjoys the presence of the God of Peace. Phil 4:6 - 9
How does one control His/Her thoughts?
1. Willingness to let the Holy Spirit work in your life…stop trying to run your life by yourself (independence).
2. Consider the direction of your thought- life itself. What do you think about? Proverbs 23:7, Phil.4:8
3. Because you are a Christian, you do NOT have to be dominated by the thinking of the old mind…the old patterns. II Tim. 1:7
4. Let your mind be filled with the “mind of Christ. Phil 2:5, 2:2-4, 6-8.
I Peter 1:13..”gird up your minds”
[April 13th]
A Christian must give his mind in submission to God.
I Pet 1:13 "gird up your minds...refer to mental exertion, putting out of the mind anything that would hinder probress in the Christian experience. Eliminated thought of worry, fear, hate, jealousy, etc. Not only when you "feel like it". It takes effort, thought, decision. The Holy Spirit enables.
We are to EMPTY our minds of such thoughts, but more importantly we are to FILL are minds with thoughts that are wholesome and uplifting. The mind should never be a vacuum. Matthew 12:43-45
Some hold onto the old pattern of thinking while attempting to bring in the new pattern...result is conflict.
II Cor. 10:3-5 Every thought should be brought into subjection to Jesus Christ.
5. FILL your mind with thoughts that will help you...Psa. 119:9-11 Desire to mature...I Peter 2:2 Proverbs 16:3. Have an attitude of yielding and dependence upon God. A mind set is slowly monded by Scripture that is momorized and often repeated....undergo subtle changes.
6. Strengthen your mind with prayer. John 16:24, I John 5:14,15
THE BATTLE FOR THE MIND: Don't allow your mind to be passive. Many assume that with a blank mind, the Lord will be the ONE to speak to them. GOD SPEAKS TO OUR SPIRITS AND OUR SPIRITS COMMUNICATE TO OUR MINDS...AND ALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WRITTEN WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TO LEAVE YOUR MIND WIDE OPEN WITHOUT QUESTIONING AND DISCERNING THE SOURCE OF INPUT, ADVANCES SATAN'S PURPOSES. Demons often apply a mental force that is different from the gentle conconstraint of the Holy Spirit when He gives direction. The enemy's orders want us to do without question. God's command "try the spirits". The enemy - "Don't ask questions, just hurry!"
Good thoughts will appear, thoughts that are religious and right. Because they seem good, you may tend to not question them. They will never bear fruit if they are not rooted in the Holy Spirit's directions. Don't allow the good to push aside the BEST!
CAUTION with the "God told me"...a Christian must be careful that whatever they hear be carefully confirmed by God's Word as well as by other mature Christians. The Holy Spirit living in others will confirm the direction that God gives. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO TEST EVERY THEORY AND DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF EVERY THOUGHT. Failure to discover the origin of what we hear or read provides the enemy with a place to work.
