June 15th, The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God, and is equal to the Father and the Son. Holy Spirit was involved in creation, empowered men for service; after Pentecost, Holy Spirit indwells the born again, never leaves, fills and empowers for service.

I. The Deity of the Holy Spirit
Divine Attributes:
*Everywhere present in the universe Psa 139:7-10.
*Has all power Luke 1:35
*Has all knowledge I Cor. 2:10-11
*Is eternal Hebrews 9:14

His deity revealed – name coupled in equality with God the Father, and God the Son.
In the baptism of the believer Matt. 28:19
In the apostolic benediction II Cor. 13:14

His deity revealed in relation to the life of Christ…
Jesus was: *conceived by the Holy Spirit Luke 1:35
*anointed by the Holy Spirit – service Acts 10:38
*led by the Holy Spirit Matt. 4:1
*crucified in the power of the Holy Spirit Heb. 9:14
*raised from the dead by Rom. 8:11
*gave commandments throughto apostles and the church Acts 1:2

Jesus depended solely upon the Holy Spirit during His life and ministry on the earth; can we afford to do less?

II. Emblems Of the Holy Spirit
FIRE - His consuming purifying power Luke 3:16, Acts 2:3, Isa. 6:1-7
WIND - His hidden depth in His mighty regenerating power John 3:8
WATER - His power to fill the born again with spiritual life. John 7:37-39
SEAL - His ownership of the born again...finished, eternal transaction
Ephesians 1:13
OIL - His power to anoint for service Acts 10:38
DOVE - His gentle, tender, peaceful nature. Phil 4:7
EARNEST - the Holy Spirit as the yet unrevealed and unrealized hopes of the glorious future. Guarantees identity, certainty, and completeness of the transfer in due time - our future inheritance.

III. The Sins against the Holy Spirit
Consider:
Blaspheming Matt. 12:31-32 Sin committed by unbelievers. Matt. 12:24-28
Resisting Acts 7:51 Sin committed by unbelievers when rejecting Christ
as Savior and Lord
Grieving Eph. 4:30-32 Sin committed by born agains
Quenching I Thess. 5:19, I John 1:9
Lying to Acts 5: 1-11
THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN BE SINNED AGAINST BECAUSE HE IS GOD!

IV. The Work of the Holy Spirit
Jesus said when regarding the coming of the Holy Spirit. John 16:7-11
Convict men of sin that Jesus is the righteousness of God
Convict men that Jesus is the righteousness of God
Convict men that the power of Satan is broken
Regenerate the believer John 3:5
Indwell the believer I Cor. 6:19-20
Seal the believer Eph. 1:13-14
Baptize the believer Acts 1:5, I Cor. 12:13
Infill the believer Eph. 5:18
Empower the believer Acts 1:8
Lead the believer Gal. 5:16-18
Administer spiritual gifts to the believer I Cor. 12:1-11

The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost to reamin with the church until it is complete and presented to the Lord Jesus at His coming. Just as Jesus finished the work He came to do in the flesh, so the Holy Spirit will finish the work He came to do in the church.

V. The Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 ONLY as we live in love can we fulfill the will of God in our lives. A yieldedness and teachableness of allowing Him to live His life out through us! God is love and He is the only ONE who can give love through us! We must become love-inspired, love-mastered and love driven.
II Cor. 5:14 Without the fruit of the Spirit (LOVE) we are just a religious noise. I Cor. 13
The fruit of the Spirit: LOVE
JOY – love’s strength
PEACE – love’s security
LONG-SUFFERING – love’s patience
GENTLENESS – love’s conduct
GOODNESS – love’s character
FAITH – love’s confidence
MEEKNESS – love’s humility
TEMPERANCE – love’s victory

A Holy Spirit-controlled person needs no law to cause him to live a righteous life. The secret of a Spirit-controlled life is found in Romans 12:1-2

Put your all on the altar, and the Holy Spirit will fill your heart with the love of God. Romans 5:5
