Sunday's lesson had us focus on our personal partiality, our bias as we view others -we must be introspective as we allow the LORD to reveal our hearts. Remember a blindspot is a blindspot because we do not see!!! BUT the Lord can expose! and will expose, if we are willing!
"If you fulfil the royal law according to the Scripture" Check out the royal law: "Love the Lord with all your heart, and your neighbor as yourself!" The word IF should grab our attention. We so often speak up and say that we do fulfill; yet we can hear James' skepticism.
"But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin" - translates from one Greek verb -- some people accept a person more readily if the face indicates the proper race, plus expensive adornment and care. (Or could it be a prejudice of: fat, skinny, rich, poor, short, tall?) Many of the Hebrew people, including some Christians, had difficulty in receiving a face that did not include a Jewish nose. (Yes, man/woman does look on the outward and makes a judgement call!)
Unfortunately, we who love the Word and believe that we are adhering to the letter of God's instructions must face the facts. James is warning that IF we offend in one point, we are guilty of all. How do you stand on the "prejudice scale"???
