Wes reviewed the story of David's sin - II Samuel. When we sin, the best thing to do is to do what David did, "LORD, You are right, I sinned and I thank you for Your forgiveness!"
David gives us an interior view of a notoriously weak time in King David's life. Nathan came to David after he had committed adultery and murder. Because David had been so cunning, he thought he had escaped any detection and consequences of his wrongdoing. Even a king pays a price for sin. It is literally impossible for anyone to hide sinful activity from the Lord.
David boldly expressed his great faith in the Lord's revelation of His nature...gracious, rich in faithful love, compassionate and ready to forgive. David knew that the LORD possessed all these and he desperately cried out to Him. David pleaded with God to be gracious to me. David knew that he did not deserve God's grace...he asked for better treatment than he deserved. He had acted with rebellion in his heart when he had sinned. He knew he deserved death.
David like our Pastor often requests - wanted to be "clean and close" to the LORD as he well knew. He knew that his sin was really rebellion...his acts were treacherous acts of revolt against the commands of God. A year had transpired and all this time David said, "My sin is always before me." The memory of his sinful deeds was overpowering his outlook on everything else in his world.
The Lord wants me to want what He wants me to want! He must be IN (indwell me) so that He can change the instruments of my "wanter". David knew that the Lord's desire for him was integrity (Truth) in his inner self. David did not simply want to be ceremonially clean, but he desired to be cleaner than clean and knew that ONLY the Lord could do that...whiter than snow. Sun + snow = blinding light! SON + Forgiveness = washing by blood that makes as white as snow!
Sin to our hearts is like stress to our health...our bones are crushed! Forgiveness brings the release and healing to the heart and the bones.
David was asking the Lord not to hold his sins against him when dealing with him...Mercy! He had the intense desire for right relationship with God and pleaded to have his sins blotted out! Nathan knew the danger when he went to the king, but the Lord sent him and gave him the creative presentation where David could see himself accurately. David desired to be cleansed - some people want the bad feelings of guilt removed but want to continue living in sin. God desires the total removal of sins from our lives.
David wanted mental, emotional, and volitional processed of his human mind to be healed. What an example for you and me. David had had the Holy Spirit...he KNEW firsthand the blessings of the Lord as he tended the sheep, played for Saul, became the king...and yet he turned his attention instead to the sin principle (Romans) that remains in our bodies today because we are flesh. We will never lose the Holy Spirit as David had risked...but we can allow "darkness in our light" as we yield to the world, the flesh and Satan. We can feel the same convicting of the precious Holy Spirit who indwells us as a born again...and we should respond quickly and repentantly with not only our confession and correction, but in total dependence upon Him (as David did belatedly!)

Dear Wes and Bernadine,
Thank you for your teaching today. It's a blessing. Wes, I was moved as you spoke how Uriah had to carry his own death letter back to Joab. David had to have the highest level of trust that Uriah would not oepn the letter and read it. 2 Sa 11:14-15.
Next, after Joab had completed the deadly deed. He sent back a message to King David. Yet, Joab, told the messenger not to disclose Uriah's death to the king until the end of the message. For Joab knew the king would be angry if the men died in the battle by charging the wall. David did get angry until the messenger told him of Uriah’s was death. David, committed multiple sins against God, Uriah, Bethsheba and his people. One of the sins David’s verbalized was his hypocrisy 2Sa 11:25 “Then David said to the messenger, Say to Joab, Let not this thing disturb you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Strengthen your attack upon the city and overthrow it. And encourage Joab” Amplified Bible.
I hope you and Bernadine can teach on the sin of hypocrisy that David committed against God and his people.
Thank you again.
Your Brother in Jesus Christ,
Barry
