Exodus 25 – 29
BUILDING THE TEMPLE! Old Testament and the NEW TESTAMENT TEMPLE!
And the Lord said to Moses, Speak to the Israelites, that they take for Me an offering. Of every man who gives it willingly and ungrudgingly with his hear…
The Lord does want our offering but it clear that He desires it be given WILLINGLY AND UNGRUDGINGLY WITH THE HEART!
In the O.T., there are many repeated instructions for the building of the temple. Just as we have many repeated instructions for the building of the temple today. The O.T. temple was a literal building; yet the Lord often spoke of the attitudes of the builders. In the N.T. the born again is His temple…the dwelling place of the precious Holy Spirit – “Christ in me…”
Instructions continue: verse 9 of 25 “And you shall make it according to all that I show you, the pattern of the tabernacle or dwelling and the pattern of all the furniture of it.” The emphasis is in doing it EXACTLY as He instructs. Accordingly, we are to be about building the temple we live in today! Details are important. Are you reading the instructions on a daily basis?
V. 22 holds a promise of intimate conversation with the Lord: “There I will meet with you…I will speak intimately with you of all which I will give you in commandment…” The Lord is speaking – He is waiting – He wants to have intimacy with YOU! Are you meeting with Him on a regular basis, just as you wish to meet with anyone that you love!
v. 40 “And see to it that you COPY EXACTLY their pattern which was shown you on the mountain.” EXACTLY is such an important word in this instruction! Sarah and Abraham desired to do God’s will, were looking forward to that fulfilled Word; yet when it seemed delayed, they decided to help the Lord with His will and began to attempt their own making it come true! We must do God’s will, but certainly do it God’s way, or we will bear the consequences just as they did! [Hebrews 8: 5, 6 – take a deeper look at the thots of this passage.]
26:30 Moses SAW the blueprints while up on the mountain. We see the Lord’s blueprints for our temple today when we are in the Word. Often we take trips to the mountain. We have “mountaintop” experiences. We are so excited, so ready to be obedient. Yet, when we get down off the mountain, we return to the same old patterns rather than retaining the wonderful excitement and commitment of the mountaintop. The Lord is always ‘waiting in the living room’ (the kitchen, the workshop, the valley, wherever) to show us the blueprints again and again!
27:8 “…as shown you on the mountain”…and He begins to get down to the details – the slabs or planks of the bldg. He reminds again and again that He has shown us on the mountain!
v. 20 “…crushed olives for the light to cause it to burn continually every night.” CRUSHED, brokenness is most often necessary to produce the pure oil…the pure life that brings forth the light to burn continually in our lives. We are always light, but many times others cannot see the light because we have allowed STUFF (sin) to cloud the view into our lives. KEEP IT BURNING continually…Zech 4 gives us the setting of the production of the oil from the olive trees.
Chapter 29: We can take care of all the details of following God’s instructions and yet it will be of no worth without the sprinkling of blood. Many can DO what appears to be very good or their best, but because they have never received the covering of the blood, their works and bldg. and skills are worthless. “Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin.”
v. 4 “wash them with water”. Symbolic of the Word…Water of the Word washing our sins away, just as Aaron and his sons were to wash at the laver…we are washed by the cleansing of the Word. Are you in the Word daily for revealing of sin so you will look to the washing…renewing your mind daily???
v. 7 “anointing oil” Oil and Water – symbols of the Holy Spirit Who reveals sin to us…shows us our hearts and gives the grace and power to be cleansed from all unrighteousness.
v. 14 The animal was taken outside the camp as a sin offering…just as the Lamb of God was taken outside the city to be our Sin Offering. Heb. 13:11-13
v.21 “sprinkled with the blood…shall be sanctified and holy. Because of the sprinkle of the blood, Aaron was now enabled to pass to his descendants his holy garments! V. 29…Are you passing down in your family, with your children for the next generations the truth of the Gospel which is the eternal Gift of the sacrifice of our precious Lamb!!! Who shed His blood for me and for you!????
v. 42 “This shall be a continual burnt offering through your generations at the door of the tent of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet with you to speak there to you.” WOW…”I will never leave you nor forsake you….I will come in and fellowship with you…ask, knock, keep on asking, make your requests be made known…and on and on His promises go!!! He patiently waits for you to enter into His tent of meeting right where you are at any given moment!!!!
v.49 “And they shall know from personal experience that I am the Lord their God, Who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them; I am the Lord their God.” PURPOSE – that they may know from personal experience…just as He would have you know moment by moment and remember what He has done in you. He came in that you might live out His life!

Hebrews 7:19-8
PRAYER…”Lord, wash me, anoint me,… Praise You, I am covered by Your blood. I love You and want you to be glorified in and through me. I cannot, but You can!”
